Captain's Log #20

Thursday, September 29 – it was 40 at 8:30 am but at least no wind.  We worked on the siding all day.  Boys made the water run in the car.

Friday – September 30 – still working on siding.  I started cleaning up the work site and organizing lumber scraps, etc.

The yellow tow strap you see draped around the siding is a "wind" deterrent.  The wind gusts were so unpredictable that once on the ladders with a sheet of siding, the boys would slip it under the tow strap.  It prevented the sheets of siding from becoming para-sails!

Saturday, October 1 – This is the last full day we have with Ricks' help. We are all exhausted.  Finished up the garage side with the siding and continued to put up siding until we ran out.  HD shorted us on the amount of siding that we needed.  BIG SURPRISE!  Bob came by and actually helped for a short while.  When the siding was gone, we went into GF for more, plus cedar trim and paint.  We ate at McKenzie River Pizza for dinner.  Ron and I stayed up past 1:00 am staining the siding so it would be ready for us in the morning.  We are all bound and determined to have all the siding in place before we leave for Pocatello tomorrow.
And that was Home Depot Run #14.

56 hours spent on the road to and from GF and in the isles of HD, instead of working on cabin, because Home Depot did not live up to what they promised.  56 hours PLUS  39 miles each way x 2 = 78 miles per trip x 14 trips = 1,092 extra miles we drove to pick up materials that were promised to be delivered, …….Home Depot, just so you know,  We will be taking the rest of our business elsewhere……….

  1. This is just so great what you guys are doing! Do you expect to have the cabin finished in 2012? Will it have a doorbell? How about a moose head on the wall?? The Home Depot math was fun/discouraging to read. :)
